Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a daily briefing in Beijing in response to a top European Union leader's criticisms of the "discriminatory" US Inflation Reduction Act.

Measures in the controversial bill were "discriminating against EU companies" the Executive Vice-president of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis was quoted as saying in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Wang Wenbin said that the US was attempting to suppress and deprive other countries of their right to development "by resorting to unilateralism" which was unjustified and ran counter to market rules.

"It will not succeed," he said. "Sealing the doors of others will only block its own road."

China urged the US to implement WTO rules and safeguard the effectiveness of the multilateral trading system, Wang said.
