China firmly opposes any attempted foreign interference in Hong Kong's affairs, Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry, stressed at a regular press conference on Tuesday regarding the US’ irresponsible remarks on the amendment to the ordinances.

Hong Kong's affairs are China's internal affairs, and no country, organization or individual has the right to interfere. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the irresponsible remarks made by the US on the amendment to the ordinances and Hong Kong's affairs. We resolutely oppose the erroneous words and deeds of any foreign force that interferes in the Special Administrative Region’s (SAR) legislation, Geng said.

Geng also noted that the Central Government will continue to support the Hong Kong SAR government in advancing the amendment to the two ordinances. Hong Kong entered a new epoch characterized by "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy since its return. Hong Kong continues to be voted the world's freest economy and one of the most competitive regions. Facts cannot be denied, Geng said.
