The US should stop interfering in China’s internal affairs by meddling in HK affairs, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday, in response to recent inappropriate remarks by a US spokesperson.

Regarding media reports about US consular officials in Hong Kong meeting with "Hong Kong independence" activists, a US State Department spokesman said Thursday that the disclosure of private information about US diplomats is totally unacceptable, while the work done by these diplomats is highly appreciated.

Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for Chinese Foreign Ministry, said that the US State Department should first reflect on its own words and deeds. Hua said the US is undermining world peace by calling interference in the internal affairs of other countries a highly appreciated and common practice for US diplomats around the world.

Using media reports to attack or blame other countries' governments in an attempt to cover up interference in China’s internal affairs will not work, Hua added.
