Beijing (People's Daily)- China takes in stride changes in US attitude, Gao Feng, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), said at a regular press conference on Thursday.

“US capriciousness is clear. It must be pointed out that no matter what the US does, China will take it in stride,” Gao said in response to a question about the China-US trade conflict.

“Setting its own pace, China will focus on its own business to staunchly push forward reform and opening-up, firmly promote high-quality economic development and expedite the construction of a modern economic system guided by a people-centered principle,” said the spokesperson.

Gao added that "China enjoys bright economic prospects and immense development potential, and we are confident".

Gao stressed that China’s position is consistent and clear-cut. We oppose imposing extreme pressure and blackmail in the name of trade protection. The US has waged trade wars around the world by abusing tariff measures, which severely violate the world trade order and hurt its trade partner’s interests. Such unpopular practices will also harm the interests of its domestic business and people.

“US has always blamed other countries for its own structural problems,” said Gao. Its accusation of China’s theft of its intellectual property and the mandatory technological transfer distorts history and reality, he added.

“In the process of China’s reform and opening-up, there have been quite a number of foreign enterprises cooperating with China in terms of technology for its own benefit, which is a typical market and contract practice. It is also known that foreign firms have profited from that,” the spokesperson said.

“The US side’s ignorance of reality and accusation of China negates awareness of property and credibility and turns against market rules,” added Gao.
