Chinese and US diplomats hold talks in Beijing

Senior Chinese and American diplomats held “candid, constructive and productive discussions” on Monday in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink and the White House National Security Council’s Senior Director for China Affairs Sarah Beran in Beijing on Monday, the ministry said in a media release.

The two US diplomats who are visiting China also held talks with Director-General of the Department of North American and Oceanic Affairs of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yang Tao, according to the media release.

The two sides conducted “candid, constructive and productive communication” on improving China-US relations and properly managing differences in accordance with the consensus reached by the Chinese and US presidents in Bali, Indonesia in November, 2022. China clarified its solemn position on the Taiwan question and other major issues of principle, the ministry said.

Both sides agreed that they will maintain communication.
