Chinese, Brazilian foreign ministers hold video meeting

BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said China and Brazil should work together to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and deepen cooperation in various fields.

During a video conference with Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Franca on Thursday, Wang said the two countries, both having global influence and representing emerging market economies, should maintain and strengthen strategic communication, consolidate the foundation of mutual political trust, support each other's core interests and stay committed to a development path in line with its own national condition, according to a press release issued on Friday.

The two countries should take the lead to practise multilateralism, build an open economy, and be partners in promoting sustainable development, Wang said.

Franca said Brazil attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China and regards strengthening cooperation with China as a priority, according to the press release.

On 5G technology, Franca said Brazil will not exclude any equipment supplier. Brazil also believes that China will make the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics a success, Franca added.
