The 2020 "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition, sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in cooperation with China Central Television (CCTV), launched its opening ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday.

As a platform where non-Chinese students can demonstrate their knowledge of the Chinese language and culture, it consists of 3 events, which are "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign High School Students and "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students in China.

This year marks the 19th Competition for Foreign College Students and the 13th Competition for Foreign High School Students, during which a battery of innovations will be applied in the agenda setting and broadcasting technology.

The grand champion will be screened after rounds on the five continents. In addition to traditional linguistic common sense, idiom competitions, situational dialogues and debates, contestants are requested to vlog about "My stories with Chinese language", a move to target young audiences.

Besides, a brand-new mode of 5G virtual field plus virtual online audience has been created to build the competition a well-participated communication platform by inviting more players and netizens.

Some fun speaking games including Chinese string up puzzle and tongue twisters were played at the opening ceremony between the contesters and the hosts, sparking great joy.
