Canadian citizen Robert Lloyd Schellenberg was sentence to death by Chinese court on Monday for drug smuggling, according to the official website of the Intermediate People's Court of Dalian Municiplaity in northwest China's Liaoning Province.

All of Schellenberg's personal assets will be conficated and more trial details will be released later, according to the website. 

Schellenberg, who in 2016 was tried and convicted at the intermediate court, was sentenced to 15 years in jail and ordered to pay a 150,000 yuan (about $22,000) fine. 

That sentence was too light according to the Liaoning Provincial Higher People's Court, and the provincial higher court sent the case back to Dalian for another assessment in late December 2018.
