Geng said that China and the US have held 10 rounds of economic and trade consultations and progress has been made.

“Similar situations when the US threatened to impose tariffs on Chinese products have happened many times. The position and attitude of the Chinese side have always been very clear, and the US is very clear about this,” said Geng.

“We still hope that the US and China will work together to meet each other half way and strive for a mutually-beneficial agreement on the basis of mutual respect. This is not only in the interest of China, but also of the US. It is also the common expectations of the international community,” said Geng.

Geng said the next round of economic and trade consultations have received high attention at home and abroad. “The international community has a lot to say, and we are also learning about the situation. What I can tell you is that the Chinese team is preparing to go to the US for consultations,” Geng said.
