London (People's Daily) -- The Chinese Embassy in London issued a statement Friday via its website rejecting claims of political interference in British politics.

The statement came in response to MI5 allegations that a British lawyer of Chinese descent was "involved in political interference activities" at the UK Parliament on behalf of the Communist Party of China.
China "always adheres to the principle of non-interference in other country's internal affairs," the statement said. "We have no need and never seek to 'buy influence' in any foreign parliament."
"We firmly oppose the trick of smearing and intimidation against the Chinese community in the UK."
