Islamabad (People’s Daily) – The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan on Wednesday evening refuted false reports by some US media over the transnational marriage issue between China and Pakistan.

According to a statement released by the embassy, the report published by the Associated Press on Wednesday saying that 629 Pakistani girls were sold as brides to China is “the same old thing and not true.”

The Chinese embassy expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the false report. It stated that, “It is clear that certain media have published a groundless story, again, without a full investigation or respect to the facts. Its intention is very suspicious.”

The embassy also reiterated its position on the issue of transnational marriage that the Chinese government will protect legitimate marriages and combat illegal activity.

If any organization or individual commits a crime in Pakistan under the banner of transnational marriage, China supports the Pakistani side in cracking down on it according to Pakistani laws, it said.

According to investigations by the Ministry of Public Security of China, there is no forced prostitution or sale of human organs happening to Pakistani women who stay in China after marriage to Chinese, the statement said.

In April, the Ministry sent a task force to Pakistan to carry out law enforcement cooperation with the Pakistani side. Under joint efforts of the two government, the illegal marriage matching activity has been effectively curbed.
