UNITED NATIONS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy on Wednesday called for support for Afghanistan's upcoming presidential election in September.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan needs to provide strong support for the election, said Ma Zhaoxu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations.

"We hope that the Afghan electoral institutions will learn from the experience and lessons of last year's parliamentary elections and make orderly preparations for the upcoming election," he told a meeting of the UN Security Council on Afghanistan.

He also asked the Afghan national security forces to make deployment arrangements in advance to ensure security and stability during the electoral process.

All political parties in Afghanistan should strengthen unity and resolve their disputes arising from the election through dialogue, said Ma.
