The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' information department has lodged a solemn representation to the BBC Beijing branch for false reports of "forced labor" in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, "Chinese restrictions on press freedom" and the BBC Radio 4 report "The Disinformation Dragon," the department said on Friday.

The department pointed out that the BBC holds a strong ideological prejudice in reports on China and has repeatedly hyped Xinjiang, Hong Kong and COVID-19 information, and even published fake news.

Such reports are full of ideological biases, violate the professional ethics of journalism and seriously mislead the audience, the department said in a statement released on its website on Friday.

The ministry and Chinese Embassy in the UK have also repeatedly lodged solemn representations at BBC headquarters in London and its Beijing branch, the department said.

The Chinese side urged the BBC to take China's stance seriously and take earnest measures to undo the report's vile impact, the department said.
