Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the high-level general debate of the United Nations General Assembly later this month, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang announced on Monday.

The debate will begin on September 25 and is scheduled to last for nine working days.

Wang is expected to elaborate on China's views on major international and regional issues.

"Wang will express China's resolute determination to work with UN member states to maintain multilateralism, safeguard the UN's authority and role, and facilitate world peace and development," Geng said.

Prior to his attendance at the debate, Wang will pay official visits to the Dominican Republic, Guyana and Suriname from Thursday to Sunday.

The general assembly will run at UN headquarters in New York from September 18 to October 5.
