Los Angeles (People’s Daily) – Downtown Los Angeles set the stage for hundreds of Chinese standing outside and bearing the hot temperatures waiting for the arrival of Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen on Sunday.

As Tsai arrived at the Intercontinental Hotel, she was greeted by peaceful Chinese demonstrators of all ages and from all walks of life. They were holding flags, banners, and signs bearing the slogan “One China.”  The crowd began chanting "One China!" and "Oppose Taiwan Independence!” as Tsai pulled into the hotel.

The Chinese group sang "My Motherland,” "I Love you China," and other songs while an airplane flew overhead pulling a banner with red letters that read “One China! Taiwan is Part of China!” against the backdrop of clear blue sky.

The Chinese had gathered to support reunification and the peaceful development of the Chinese mainland.

Since Tsai came into power, critics have observed her constant refusal to recognize the 1992 Consensus, the cornerstone of cross-Straits development.  Tsai has always maintained a “Taiwan Independence” position, stunting healthy development and further separating Taiwan from the Chinese Mainland.  The separatist conspiracies have caused great indignation among the Chinese people around the world.

Qiang Lu, one of the event’s organizers said, “We came to protest for one purpose only, to let Tsai know that overseas Chinese are resolutely opposed to the idea of ‘Taiwan Independence,’ as we uphold cross-Straits reunification!”

Dezhao Zhou, rotating president for the Union of Promotion of China's Peaceful Reunification who said he hoped both sides could be peaceful and unified.

“We are all Chinese! The Chinese should be unified, not divided. Since ancient times, Taiwan has always been an inseparable part of China. The Chinese will never accept Tsai’s wish for Taiwan Independence,” Zhou said.
