BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers on Friday began deliberating an inspection report on the enforcement of the law on employment promotion.

The employment promotion law has largely been implemented in an effective manner, said Zhang Chunxian, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), while giving the report at the ongoing bimonthly session of the NPC Standing Committee.

Employment in China keeps expanding and the annual number of newly created urban jobs has stayed above 13 million for six consecutive years, according to the report.

A total of 8.67 million new urban jobs were added during the January-July period, hitting 78.8 percent of the annual target, the report noted.

The employment structure has been further optimized. The primary, secondary and tertiary industries accounted for 26.1 percent, 27.6 percent and 46.3 percent of the total employed people, respectively, with the service sector contributing a larger share of the job market, according to the report.

Moreover, employment for key groups, such as college graduates, demobilized military personnel and rural migrant workers, has remained stable. Enditem
