Chinese mainland reports 157 new local COVID-19 cases, 667 asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 169 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, including 157 domestically transmitted and 12 imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Sunday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 729 asymptomatic infections, including 667 locally transmitted and 62 imported on Saturday, the National Health Commission said.

Three new deaths were reported on Saturday in Shanghai. The city reported 52 new local confirmed cases and 570 local asymptomatic infections.

There were 4,405 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Saturday, with 200 in critical condition.

Saturday also saw 476 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission said.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 223,145 and the death toll stood at 5,222.
