The Chinese mainland reported 229 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 183 domestically transmitted and 46 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Thursday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 1,108 asymptomatic infections on Wednesday, including 1,005 locally transmitted and 103 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 2,883 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Wednesday, with 16 in critical condition.

Wednesday also saw 222 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 251,849 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
