The Chinese mainland reported 240 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, including 189 domestically transmitted and 51 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Monday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 570 asymptomatic infections on Sunday, including 466 locally transmitted and 104 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 2,929 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Sunday, with 23 in critical condition.

Sunday also saw 256 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 251,040 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
