Chinese mainland reports 578 new local COVID-19 cases, 1,591 local asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 639 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, including 578 domestically transmitted and 61 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Saturday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 1,751 asymptomatic infections on Friday, including 1,591 locally transmitted and 124 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 8,243 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Friday, with 28 in critical condition.

Friday also saw 156 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 238,822 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
