The Chinese mainland reported 704 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, including 646 domestically transmitted and 58 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Saturday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 1,440 asymptomatic infections on Friday, including 1,359 locally transmitted and 81 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 4,668 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Friday, with eight in critical condition.

Friday also saw 98 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 234,217 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
