Zagreb (People's Daily) Medical supplies purchased by the Croatian government from China arrived by plane at Zagreb Franjo Tudman International Airport on Sunday.

More Chinese aid is expected to follow.

Chinese Ambassador Xu Erwen and Croatia’s Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister Zvonimir Frka-Petešić were on hand to receive the plane as it landed. They were accompanied by Liu Kai, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy.

Xu said that after the COVID-19 outbreak in China, the Croatian government and its people offered their support for the first time ever.

COVID-19 is spreading across Croatia. Premier Li Keqiang recently talked with Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic and said China is ready to share its experiences in disease prevention, control, and treatment, and also provide assistance in medical supplies.

“China will always stay with the Croatian government and people to overcome the current difficulties until the final victory achieved,” Li said.

Petesic said that since the phone conversation between Prime Minister Plenkovic and Premier Li Keqiang, China had supported the country in purchasing epidemic prevention supplies and equipment from China.

“The arrival of the supplies today will play a crucial role in Croatia’s epidemic prevention work, which is deeply appreciated by our side. Croatia and China enjoy a long history of friendship, our cooperation in epidemic prevention is at the forefront. We are confident that we will overcome the epidemic together and achieve more practical results later in our cooperation,” Petesic said.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China’s Jiangsu and Hainan provinces, and Shanghai along with Chinese companies such as Huawei, CRBC, NORINCO have assisted Croatia in various ways.
