Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday delivered a speech at the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) Convention via a video link.

Li said that the OECD has long been committed to research and coordination over global development policy and exerted an instrumental role in international economic cooperation.

"This year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of policy dialogue and cooperation relationship between China and the OECD. Over the past 25 years, along with China's development, the two sides have carried out diverse and mutually beneficial exchanges and cooperation," said Li.

Li pointed out that both the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery of the world economy are at a critical juncture, as the global governance regime is changing at a faster pace and economic globalization is faced with new opportunities and challenges.

"We need to support countries worldwide to take necessary public health and economic measures in accordance with their own national conditions, deepen international cooperation to jointly fight the epidemic, stabilize the economy, and ensure people's livelihoods."

"We should strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination, maintain the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain, alleviate the difficulties faced by developing countries, and put the world economy on the track of stable recovery as soon as possible."

Li emphasized that China has coordinated epidemic prevention and control with socio-economic development and adopted a series of measures facing the severe impact of the epidemic.

The epidemic has been effectively controlled, employment and economic fundamentals have been stabilized, and China's economy is sure to achieve positive growth throughout the year, according to Li.

"We will respect the laws of economic development, make joint efforts with the market through macro adjustments, maintain the continuity, effectiveness, and sustainability of macro policies."

"We will strive to maintain China's economic operation in a reasonable range, achieve stability and long-term development, and give the market stable expectations."

Li Keqiang pointed out that China remains the largest developing country in the world, and development serves as the foundation and key to solving all problems in the country.

China will comprehensively improve the level of opening up, build a new development pattern, and promote high-quality development, Li said.

China is willing to deepen cooperation with countries in the world, including developed ones, to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation so that China and the world can share development opportunities and better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, according to Li.

"We sincerely hope that the OECD will continue to leverage its merits and uphold the mission of "better policies for better lives" to promote strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth of the world economy," said the senior official.
