BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) - Chinese President Xi Jinping started to deliver a keynote speech via video link to the opening ceremony of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which was held Monday evening (Beijing Time).

Here are highlights of his speech:

China, Africa set "shining example" for new type of int'l relations: Xi

China and Africa have set a shining example for building a new type of international relations, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and African countries.

Over the past 65 years, China and Africa have forged unbreakable fraternity in the struggle against imperialism and colonialism, and embarked on a distinct path of cooperation in the journey toward development and revitalization, Xi said.

"Together, we have written a splendid chapter of mutual assistance amidst complex changes, and set a shining example for building a new type of international relations," he said.

Xi hails spirit of China-Africa friendship, cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday hailed the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation, saying it reflects the two sides' experience of sharing weal and woe and provides a source of strength for furthering China-Africa ties.

The key to a close China-Africa relationship and a deep bond of friendship lies in the everlasting spirit, which features sincere friendship and equality, win-win for mutual benefit and common development, fairness and justice, and progress with the times and openness and inclusiveness, Xi said.

Xi says China will supply Africa with additional 1 bln COVID-19 vaccine doses

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday said China will provide an additional 1 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa.

The move aims to help the African Union achieve its goal of vaccinating 60 percent of the African population by 2022, Xi said.

The additional 1 billion doses include 600 million as donation and 400 million to be provided through such means as joint production by Chinese companies and relevant African countries, Xi added.

In addition, China will undertake 10 medical and health projects for African countries, and send 1,500 medical personnel and public health experts to Africa, Xi said.

China will work with African countries on poverty reduction, agricultural development

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged to undertake 10 poverty reduction and agricultural projects for Africa, and send 500 agricultural experts to Africa.

China will set up a number of China-Africa joint centers for modern agricultural technology exchange, demonstration and training in China, Xi said.

China will also encourage Chinese institutions and companies to build in Africa demonstration villages for China-Africa cooperation on agricultural development and poverty reduction, and support the Alliance of Chinese Companies in Africa for Corporate Social Responsibilities in launching the initiative of "100 Companies in 1,000 Villages," Xi added.

China will never forget African countries' profound friendship: Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that China will never forget African countries' profound friendship.

"This year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawful seat in the United Nations," Xi said, expressing sincere appreciation to the many African friends who supported China back then.

China will remain guided by the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and the principle of pursuing the greater good and shared interests, Xi said.

Xi pledged that China will work together with African friends to promote and carry forward the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation from generation to generation.

Xi makes proposals on building China-Africa community with shared future in new era

China and Africa should fight COVID-19 with solidarity, deepen practical cooperation, promote green development, and uphold equity and justice, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday.

On fighting COVID-19 with solidarity, Xi stressed the need to truly ensure the accessibility and affordability of vaccines in Africa.

On deepening practical cooperation, Xi emphasized expanding trade and investment, sharing experience on poverty reduction, and strengthening cooperation on digital economy.

On promoting green development, Xi stressed the need to advocate green and low-carbon development, actively promote renewable energy, and keep strengthening the capacity for sustainable development.

On upholding equity and justice, Xi underscored the need to unequivocally stand for the just propositions of developing countries and translate China and Africa's common aspirations and interests into joint actions.
