Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Wednesday inspected northeast China's Jilin Province.
While visiting Lishu, a county in the city of Siping, Xi went to a demonstration zone for green food production and a farmers' cooperative to learn about grain production, the protection and use of black soil, as well as mechanized and large-scale farming.
Northeast China is one of the three major areas with black soil in the world, also noted as the golden corn belt and hometown of soybeans. While the black soil here is fertile and productive, it also faces the issues of overusing soil fertility, said Xi.
He stressed taking effective measures to protect the black soil, which is rare and vulnerable like giant pandas. Exploring the method of mulching corn stalks into soil is not only advantageous in increasing the organic substance in the soil but also effective in avoiding wind and water erosion as well as preserving soil moisture, worthy of being popularized and promoted in other parts of China, Xi added.
Xi stressed upholding the great socialist cause founded by the CPC and carrying it forward from generation to generation during his visit to the memorial hall for the Siping battle in the Chinese People's War of Liberation in northeast China's Jilin Province.
Xi encouraged all parts of the country to develop cooperatives in accordance with local conditions and explore more ways for the development of professional cooperatives.
Xi pointed out China have been exploring the way for the development of cooperatives.
Xi said it makes sense to find a suitable path of cooperative development. The agricultural mechanization degree has been raised and the unique advantages of the land has been brought into full play.
Xi expressed his hope that the villagers could make persistent efforts, summarized the experience, and promoted it continuously.
