Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at this year's BRICS summit, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Friday.

Hua made the remarks at a regular press conference, adding the two leaders will discuss multiple issues, including bilateral relations and cooperation within the BRICS framework.

The meeting would be the second summit between the leaders in recent months, said Hua.

"Currently, the protectionist and unilateralist measures taken by the United States have attracted widespread attention within the international community,” said Hua.

Both China and India firmly support multilateralism, and the building of an open world economy, she told the reporters.

"This is also a consensus among BRICS countries," the spokesperson added.
