Chinese shares end higher Monday

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.75 percent at 3,115.57 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.47 percent higher at 11,040.2 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 668.03 billion yuan (about 96 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 640.16 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers 1,032 to 361 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,568 to 512 in Shenzhen.

Stocks in the electronics sector led the gains, with shares of the Shenzhen-based electronic parts manufacturer Shennan Circuits Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 170.08 yuan.

Real estate companies also notched solid gains, as shares of the leading developer Poly Developments And Holdings Group Co., Ltd. edged up 2.87 percent to 16.48 yuan apiece.

Bucking the upward trend, shares in the forestry sector led the losses, with the forest-keeping and lumber-processing Fujian Jinsen Forestry Co., Ltd. falling 8.77 percent to 17.79 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.62 percent to close at 1,935.07 points.
