The Chinese Foreign Ministry's Commissioner's Office in Hong Kong has disproved attempts by US and UK politicians and officials to exonerate anti-China troublemakers in special administrative region, urging them to immediately stop meddling with Hong Kong's affairs.

In separate statements Saturday, a spokesperson of the commissioner's office strongly criticized their remarks on the arrests of "Jimmy Lai, Martin Lee, Albert Ho, Lee Cheuk-yan and several more anti-China troublemakers" in the city.

"The Hong Kong police were enforcing the law, upholding the rule of law in Hong Kong, and exercising power mandated by the Basic Law in taking legal action against those suspected of organizing and participating in unauthorized assemblies," said the spokesperson.

"It is completely reasonable and legitimate, and foreign countries have no right to interfere."

The spokesperson emphasized that Hong Kong is a city governed by the rule of law, where laws shall be strictly observed and lawbreakers prosecuted, and nobody is above the law.

The spokesperson pointed out that the US politicians are condoning evil and making a travesty of the rule of law by ignoring the facts, distorting the Sino-British Joint Declaration, and trying to exonerate anti-China troublemakers in Hong Kong on the pretext of "transparency", "the rule of law" and "a high degree of autonomy".

"It serves as another evidence of their collusion with the local troublemakers, which deserves condemnation by the entire international community," the spokesperson said, urging the US politicians to abide by basic norms governing international relations.

The spokesperson pointed out that it is completely wrong that the UK Foreign Office spokesperson "has distorted the truth by painting unauthorized assemblies as "peaceful protest", in a bid to whitewash, condone and exonerate the anti-China troublemakers in Hong Kong".

"The UK side has fully exposed its double standards in that it frequently pays lip service to the rule of law, but drops mention of the principle once anti-China troublemakers in Hong Kong are involved."

The spokesperson of the commissioner's office emphasized that Hong Kong affairs are completely China's internal affairs.

"We urge the UK side to respect the Hong Kong police's law enforcement efforts, and immediately stop meddling with Hong Kong affairs," said the spokesperson.
