China's strategy to coordinate development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has driven faster and better development in the area, according to official data.

An index created by agencies including the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed the region's development barometer registered fast growth from 2013 to 2017.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional development index hit 153.99 last year, up from 100 in the base year of 2010, according to the NBS.

Quality of growth also improved as indices pointed to greener and opener development with greater coordination and inclusiveness in the region.

In terms of green development, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region saw its energy consumption per unit of GDP drop by over 30 percent and average PM2.5 density down nearly 40 percent.

China rolled out a plan in 2015 for the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Progress has been made in many fields including environmental protection, public services and transport.
