Beijing (People's Daily) - The number of daily reported locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Beijing has remained in single digits for six consecutive days, and the number of discharged cases is constantly increasing. The epidemic prevention and control work in Beijing has improved with steady steps, and the overall situation is controllable, Xu Hejian, director of Beijing Municipal Information Office, said at a press conference on Saturday.

According to Xu, after the recent outbreak, Beijing decisively raised the emergency response to the second level, and adopted close management of high-risk areas. At the same time, local authorities took immediate preventive measures to closely track key populations, related personnel and close contacts, and asked them to undergo centralized quarantine or home quarantine for medical observation.

As of now, Beijing has already conducted nucleic acid testing on 10 million residents, and successfully controlled the number of daily confirmed cases linked to the Xinfadi Wholesale Market in single digits within 23 days. It means that the epidemic in the capital is preventable, controllable and predictable.
