The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) support the measures taken by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government on the Hong Kong issue.

Noting the national security legislation on China's Hong Kong region, DPRK's Foreign Minister Ri Son Gwon expressed the country's position on Thursday when meeting with the Chinese ambassador to the DPRK Li Jinjun.

The issue of Hong Kong belongs to the internal affairs of China, so interference by foreign forces is a gross violation of China's sovereignty and international law, the DPRK's foreign minister said.

"He stressed that the DPRK will as always positively support the stand of the Chinese party and government," KCNA cited Ri as saying.

DPRK has always supported China's stand in its Hong Kong region.

"Since the Hong Kong issue is an issue pertaining thoroughly to the internal affairs of China, any country or force has no rights to say this or that about the issue," reported KCNA state news agency last month quoting a representative of the DPRK foreign ministry.

On May 28, deputies to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) voted overwhelmingly in favor of the decision on "Establishing and Improving the Legal System and Enforcement Mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to Safeguard National Security" at the closing meeting of the NPC annual session.
