The Greater Khingan Mountain area has 1.53 million hectares of wetland areas, the largest national forest area. It is the granary of northeast China and a natural barrier for the North China Plain, playing an important role in protecting the ecological balance of Northeast Asia.

On August 2, an image similar to the shape of a dragon appears in the Nanweng River Basin in the south of the Greater Khingan Mountains.

The Nanweng River Basin has different kinds of wetlands, such as marsh wetland, lake wetland and riverine wetland. It also contains the largest island forest wetland group in a cold temperature zone in Asia.

The Nanweng River Basin contains more than 800 plant resources, 49 wild animals, 216 birds, and 44 amphibians, reptiles and fishes.
