The index, based on companies' previous and present power consumption, can show whether the operation of an enterprise has returned to a normal level as well as the number of enterprises that have resumed work.

It portrays accurate working situations after the resumption and can be used as a reference for local governments to formulate policies, according to the company.

"As a digital economy powerhouse, Zhejiang makes use of big data to launch the power index, which can effectively help work resumption and production in an orderly way," said Jin Yi, deputy director of the Zhejiang provincial energy bureau.

Since Feb. 10, some enterprises in the province have resumed work after a protracted holiday caused by the virus outbreak.
