Chinese vice premier urges China-US cooperation, vows no compromise on major principles


Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said Friday that cooperation is the only right choice for China and the United States, but China will not compromise on major issues of principle.

China-US relations are of great importance, Liu said in a group interview with Chinese media after the conclusion of the 11th round of high-level economic and trade consultations between the world's top two economies, which took place on Thursday and Friday in Washington.

Cooperation is the only right choice for the two sides, but it has to be based on principles, said the vice premier, who heads the Chinese side of the China-US comprehensive economic dialogue.

The Chinese delegation came to Washington for the latest round of talks with sincerity, and held candid and constructive exchanges with the US side, Liu said, adding that the two sides agreed to continue to push forward the consultations. (Xinhua)

PKU launches international undergraduate program to serve B&R construction


Peking University has launched "Future Leaders" International Undergraduate Program to train talent and serve development associated with the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative.

Some 50 students will be enrolled with the dual-degree program, led by Guanghua School of Management, among whom one third will be from Peking University and the others will be from college partners around the world.

The number of students enrolled in the program will gradually expand to around 100 in the future. And the first group of international students will arrive in Beijing in the autumn of 2020. (China Daily)

China further regulates military expenditure


The General Office of the Central Military Commission (CMC) has issued a provisional plan to further regulate military expenditure.

The plan stated a standard procedure for the settlement and reimbursement of expenditures for military units and clarified the duties and responsibilities of different departments.

It also gave specific requirements on the review and approval of financial practice and asked for improved supervision and transparency of the process. (Xinhua)

Trump says DPRK testing not 'breach of trust'


US President Donald Trump on Friday said Pyongyang's recent weapons tests were "very standard" and not "a breach of trust," US media reported.

"They're short-range and I don't consider that a breach of trust at all," Trump said in an interview with POLITICO.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) launched two projectiles from its northwestern region Thursday afternoon. Days earlier, the DPRK fired several short-range projectiles into the sea off its east coast. (Xinhua)

Militants attack a five-star hotel in SW Pakistan


At least three militants attacked a five-star hotel in Pakistan's Gwadar city in southwest Balochistan province on Saturday, a local official said.

The incident occurred around 5:00 pm local time.

People have been evacuated from the hotel, the local authority said.

Several people were reported injured, and the militants killed one guard at the entrance to the hotel, according to reports. (CGTN)

Seals saved from poachers released back to sea


Twenty-four wild seals saved from poachers in February were on Thursday released back to the sea in Northeast China's Liaoning Province.

They were released having adequately recuperated following their ordeal, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said.

The seal cubs were among 100 seals involved in a poaching case in Liaoning.

Of these 100 seals, 29 were already dead when local police in Dalian, Liaoning province found them on Feb 11. (China Daily)
