The Changchun government of Jilin province punished two officials for imposing unjust measures during the recent outbreak of COVID-19, according to a statement released by the government on Thursday.

Zhang Zuobin, deputy secretary of the CPC working committee of the city government organs, has been removed from his position.

Liu Ying, director of the city's cyberspace administration, has been warned by the Party.

Due to tightened control and prevention measures in recent days, some residents in Changchun have faced difficulty in purchasing fresh vegetables, while the CPC working committee of the city government organs and the city's cyberspace administration promoted posts of vegetable packages on social media, causing negative influence, the statement said.

Jilin province reported 1,340 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 835 asymptomatic carriers on Wednesday, the provincial health commission said on Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases, 997 were found in Changchun, 333 in Jilin city, six in Siping and four in Baicheng.

Of the asymptomatic carriers, 422 were identified in Changchun, 408 in Jilin city, three in Baishan and one each in Siping and Baicheng.
