Russian President's upcoming visit is of great significance: Chinese FM
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi says Russian President Vladimir Putin's forthcoming state visit to China is of great significance to preparations for the next stage of China-Russia relations.
Wang says Putin will also be attending the Qingdao Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says direct contact between the leaders of China and Russia is key to solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
China to root out bad tourism practices
China will wage a three-month campaign against bad tourism practices this summer.
The ministry of culture and tourism says "Sharp Sword," which involves incidents overseas, in border areas and on day trips, will be given priority.
Unreasonably low priced trips and illegal tour services will also be targeted. China's summer season usually runs from July to August.
Trump can probably pardon himself, but has no plan to: Giuliani
US President Donald Trump probably has the power to pardon himself, but does not plan to do so.
That’s according to his lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Trump is under pressure from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 US election.
Chinese scientists develop bendable batteries
Chinese scientists say they have invented bendable lithium sulfur batteries.
That paves the way for producing a generation of flexible smart devices.
Traditional batteries are made by pouring liquid electrolytes into solid electrodes, yet the new approach puts electrolytes into ultra-thin metal layers to form 3D networks in dishcloth-like materials.
Merkel outlines position on eurozone reform concessions
German Chancellor Angela Merkel offers an olive branch on investment and help for indebted eurozone member states.
Hers was a long-awaited answer to French President Emmanuel Macron's ambitious call for European Union reforms.
Merkel says as the eurozone’s top economy, Germany would support an investment budget whose total would be "at the lower end of the double-digit billions of euros range.”
She says the "rainy day fund” would serve to help even out economic imbalances between richer and poorer European countries.
She says the fund would be gradually phased in and evaluated in terms of its effectiveness.
Court upholds death sentence for arsonist nanny
The Zhejiang Provincial Higher People's Court rejects the appeal of a woman sentenced to death for starting a fire which killed four members of the family she was working for.
Mo Huanjing appealed her death sentence for intentionally setting the June 22, 2017 fire in an upscale apartment in Hangzhou.
She was sentenced to death in February.
At least 25 killed, nearly 300 injured in Guatemala volcano eruption
And at least 25 people were killed and nearly 300 injured on Sunday near Guatemala’s capital.
This, following the violent eruption of Fuego volcano for the second time this year.
Scores of others remain missing.
