CPC leaders hear reports on defective vaccine investigation


Presided by Xi Jinping, general secretary of CPC Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee convened on Thursday to hear reports on defective vaccine case involving Changsheng Life Sciences Limited. Multiple high officials were sacked for their neglect of duty or misconduct in oversight over substandard vaccines.

Xi stressed that those involved in the case should be held accountable and punished severely according to the law.

Efforts should be made to ensure safety, and safeguard the public interest and social stability, according to the meeting. (People’s Daily app)

Chinese delegation to visit US late August for trade talks


China will send a delegation to Washington in late August for trade talks at the invitation of the US, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said in a statement on Thursday.

China’s Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen will lead the delegation. Wang is also the deputy China international trade representative.

The US delegation will be led by David Malpass, Under Secretary for International Affairs at the Department of the Treasury.

The two sides hope to resolve a trade conflict that unnerved world markets.

China has reaffirmed its stance of opposing trade protectionism and not accepting unilateral restrictive trade measures, according to the MOFCOM statement. (CGTN)

US and Mexico to set up joint team to fight drug cartels


US and Mexican law enforcement authorities will set up a joint team based in Chicago targeting the leaders and finances of drug cartels that ship opioids into the US, aiming to stop the spike in overdose deaths, officials said on Wednesday.

Targeting cartel finances was key in stopping the flow of drugs because “the sole purpose of these entities is one thing and one thing only - money,” said Anthony Williams, chief of operations for the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Mexico remains the principal highway for major drugs into the US including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines. (CGTN – People’s Daily app)

HK, Macao, Taiwan residents eligible for mainland residence permit

Residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan can apply for a mainland residence permit to enjoy better public services from Sept 1, according to China’s State Council.

The permit card, which can be read automatically at electronic terminal devices at various places such as railway stations, airports and banks, can facilitate their study, work and life on the mainland, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Security on Thursday.

The application is voluntary, and applicants need to live on the mainland for longer than six months, with stable job and accommodation. (China Daily)

China to allow foreigners to trade A-shares next month


China has approved regulation amendments, allowing qualified individual foreign investors to open securities accounts to trade A-shares next month.

The updated regulation, which will take effect on Sept. 15, will allow foreign individuals working in the Chinese mainland to open A-share trading accounts, a move to further open up the securities market, according to the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).

The move will expand the investor base, introduce more liquidity and improve the structure of the securities market, the CSRC said on its website.

The CSRC also expanded the equity incentive objects of foreigners working at companies listed on the A-share market from those working in the mainland to all foreign employees. (Xinhua)

China's MA60 aircraft obtains certification in 14 countries

China's MA60 series turboprop passenger aircraft obtained certification in 14 countries, the aircraft developer said Thursday.

The MA60 family plays a major role in enhancing the influence of Chinese-developed aviation products and Chinese standards, according to AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Company Ltd.

The aircraft has been certified in such countries as Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Nepal, Cameroon, and South Africa.

The MA60 turboprop aircraft are designed to operate regional flights and can also be modified to serve as special purpose aircraft.

The aircraft currently operates on about 300 air routes and have transported more than 11 million passengers worldwide, according to AVIC Xi'an. (Xinhua)

China’s national flag raised at the 2018 Asian Games


China’s sport delegation held a flag raising ceremony Thursday at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Check-in at the Athletes' Village started Wednesday, followed by the Indonesian delegation and Syrian delegation kicking off the flag raising ceremonies, according to Xinhua.

So far, 12 countries have checked into the village for the Jakarta Palembang 2018.

China will compete at the 2018 Asian Games from August 18 to September 2. (People's Daily app)
