A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Monday warned Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) not to provide shelter to violent protesters from Hong Kong.

In late July, Taiwan leader Tsia Ing-wen said her government will adopt “humanitarian principles” to help some Hong Kong asylum seekers accused of breaking laws by their violent acts during the demonstration.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson of Beijing’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said Taiwan’s aid to the lawbreakers provides a safe haven for criminals. 

Ma urged Tsai’s administration to stop interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs and respect the special administrative region’s rule of law.
