Chinese mainland reports 18 new local COVID-19 cases, 43 asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 37 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 18 domestically transmitted and 19 imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 92 asymptomatic infections, including 43 locally transmitted and 49 imported on Wednesday, the National Health Commission said.

No new deaths were reported on Tuesday in Shanghai. The city reported five new local confirmed cases and eight local asymptomatic infections.

There were 2,047 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Wednesday, with 116 in critical condition.

Tuesday also saw 286 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission said.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 224,171 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
