Shanghai container ports are continuing to operate smoothly despite the East China city’s strict COVID-19 quarantine restrictions, officials said on Wednesday.

"The daily container throughput of Shanghai International Port Group is still at a high level, which is the normal level of port operation, and the port staff are basically in place," said Zhou Yong, assistant general manager of the group's production business department.

Shanghai Port managers have "basically solved the problem of the passage of container trucks," he said. Container truck drivers enter and leave the port area using electronic handover forms and 48-hour COVID-19 reports.

Meanwhile the Yangshan maritime bureau dispatched additional personnel to ensure the safe and orderly operation of maritime transport at the Yangshan container port.

Water traffic was safe and orderly, a bureau official said. Epidemic prevention, control and maritime work was unimpeded.
