The Chinese mainland reported 1,623 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, including 1,568 domestically transmitted and 55 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Wednesday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 18,576 asymptomatic infections on Tuesday, including 18,491 locally transmitted and 85 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 15,345 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Tuesday, with 29 in critical condition.

Tuesday also saw 751 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 277,043 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
