It was “typical disinformation” when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Secretary Blinken said China posed the most serious long-term challenge to the international order, China said on Friday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing in response to a request to prove Blinken’s address at George Washington University was disinformation.

“China has always been a staunch defender of the international order,” Wang said. “Isn’t it spreading disinformation to say that China poses ‘the most serious long-term challenge to the international order’?”

China has always maintained that all countries should firmly uphold the international system centered on the United Nations (UN), the international order underpinned by international law and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, the ministry spokesperson said.

Wang urged the US to make the same commitments as China “instead of spreading smears and attacks on others.”
