Chinese mainland reports 173 new local COVID-19 cases, 636 local asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 245 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 173 domestically transmitted and 72 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Tuesday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 723 asymptomatic infections on Monday, including 636 locally transmitted and 87 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 2,966 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Monday, with 38 in critical condition.

Monday also saw 241 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 249,929 and the death toll stood at 5,226.
