Chinese mainland reports 4,988 new local confirmed COVID-19 cases, 22,859 new local asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 5,046 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 4,988 domestically transmitted and 58 imported, data from the National Health Commission showed on Tuesday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 23,016 asymptomatic infections on Monday, including 22,859 locally transmitted and 157 imported, the National Health Commission said.

There were 42,481 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Monday, with 128 in critical condition.

Monday also saw 3,198 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission added.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 345,529 and the death toll stood at 5,235.
