Chinese mainland reports 312 new local COVID-19 cases, 2,140 asymptomatic infections

The Chinese mainland reported 331 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including 312 domestically transmitted and 19 imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Friday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 2,201 asymptomatic infections, including 2,140 locally transmitted and 61 imported on Thursday, the National Health Commission said.

Two new deaths were reported on Thursday, all in Shanghai. The city reported 227 new local confirmed cases and 1,869 local asymptomatic infections.

There were 6,944 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Thursday, with 397 in critical condition.

Thursday also saw 614 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, the commission said.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 221,289, and the death toll stood at 5,205.
