Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday that the US, the UK and Australia had not changed their outdated Cold War mind-set and bloc politics, or the “old routine of provoking military confrontation and adding fuel to the fire.”

"The ultimate goal of the US, the UK and Australia is to build an Asia-Pacific version of NATO that will serve to safeguard US hegemony," Zhao said. "The Asia-Pacific countries are firmly opposed to this."

"The trilateral security partnership between the US, the UK and Australia is an Anglo-Saxon clique," he said.
