The continuous progress of Belt and Road Initiative cooperation brings opportunities for the common prosperity for all countries, China said on Wednesday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing in response to remarks by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen that the initiative has benefited Cambodia.

"The Belt and Road Initiative is aimed at boosting connectivity and common development," Mao said. "As Prime Minister Hun Sen said, there is no part of China's policy that declares itself the enemy of any other country or looks for ways to hinder other countries' development."

"It's always about helping and supporting other countries' development."

The initiative was proposed over 10 years ago based on the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, she said.

"China believes the advancement of high-quality cooperation will bring more Belt and Road Initiative opportunities for the common prosperity of all countries," Mao said.

The Belt and Road Initiative was a well-received global public good and an international cooperation platform, she said.

"For now, over three-quarters of countries around the world have joined this initiative, which has generated 420,000 jobs in these countries and helped more and more countries speed up their economic growth," the ministry spokesperson said. "All those fruitful outcomes fully indicate that the Belt and Road Initiative is a pathway toward common development."

"China will continue to follow through on the important consensus between the Chinese and Cambodian leaders to further enhance our cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and bring more benefits to our peoples."
