The sooner the US lifts its tariffs on China, the sooner consumers and businesses will benefit, China said on Thursday.

Commerce Ministry spokesperson Shu Jueting made the remarks at a routine online press briefing in Beijing in response to remarks by US President Joe Biden about easing tariffs on China.

“We have noted President Biden’s remarks,” Shu said. “China always believes that abolishing all additional tariffs on China is not only good for China but also good for the United States and the world.”

China and the US should “meet each other halfway,” she said, seeking trade cooperation and global supply chain stability to the benefit of peoples of both countries and the world.

“Given the current high inflation, the sooner the US lifts its tariffs on China, the sooner consumers and businesses will benefit,” Shu said.
