Requesting foreign countries to issue travel alerts to Hong Kong is an attempt to incite foreign interference in the city's affairs and put pressure on the central government and Hong Kong government, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Friday.

The Civil Human Rights Front called on foreign consulates in Hong Kong to issue a travel alert for the city, which was rebuked by people from all walks of life in Hong Kong.

“Since Hong Kong's return 22 years ago, it remains a city of prosperity and stability with the full support of the central government,” said Hua. “Hong Kong is the pride of all Chinese people, including more than 7 million Hong Kong compatriots.”

Hua said that for some time, very few people planned and organized extremely violent illegal activities, which have seriously affected the foundation of the rule of law in Hong Kong, seriously jeopardized Hong Kong’s security, stability and order and severely damaged the image of Hong Kong.

“This is heartbreaking and their behavior has been strongly condemned by people from all walks of life in Hong Kong,” Hua said at a regular press conference.

Hua stressed that Hong Kong belongs to China and China does not allow any foreign interference in Hong Kong affairs.

“I suggest those who try to get foreign forces involved in Hong Kong affairs to learn some history,” said Hua. “In history, none of those who collude with foreign forces and bring calamity to the country and the people have a good end.”
