Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian Monday warned that the US will bear “severe consequences” if it insists on going forward with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s planned visit to Taiwan.

These were remarks made by Zhao at a regular press conference.

“China has expressed resolute opposition and has made its position clear several times,” he said, adding that China will “stand ready.”

Zhao said the US would have to bear “severe consequences” from China’s strong measures in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity if the US doesn’t change course.
